Andreas Nikolajsen

Four years ago he was a swimmer who raced triathlons for fun. Now Denmark calls him its next Olympic hope. Andreas Nikolajsen comes out of Esbjerg, on Denmark's windswept west coast, where he built his engine in the pool long before he ever pinned on a race number.

The talent surfaced fast. He was named Danish Talent of the Year in 2022, the same season he made his Junior European Cup debut, and earned selection for the Junior World Championships the year after. The swimmer was turning into a triathlete in a hurry.

2025 was the leap. In his first full senior season he claimed his first international win — running clear of the field off a brutal 5km split — and closed the year with silver at the Europe Triathlon Cup final in Alanya. The run is his weapon, and his rivals are learning it the hard way.

From hobbyist to international podium in under four years, the trajectory only points one way. Esbjerg has produced a racer, and the rest of Europe is starting to pay attention.
